The Smart Energy Living Alliance invites and encourages you to nominate one or more outstanding companies, as a

recipient of the First Annual Colorado ENERGY STAR Awards. The awards dinner will follow the Fourth Annual ENERGY STAR Summit and will recognize outstanding contributions to construction, remodeling, and support of ENERGY STAR residential programs across Colorado.

 

There will be awards for one builder from each of the four Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) regions.  The regions are represented in the map below.

 

Western Regional (Green) -- Central Regional (Blue) -- Southern Regional (Gray) -- Eastern Regional (Beige)

 

Award Categories

  • Homebuilder (4) – One homebuilder will be recognized from each of the GEO regions. Applicants will be evaluated based their ENERGY STAR participation. This will include sales and marketing, training, and quantity and quality of homes.

  • Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Champion (2) This award will recognize contractors participating in the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program.

  • Home Energy Efficiency Contractor Champion (2) – Two contractors outside the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program area will be recognized for their effort to improve the efficiency of the existing housing stock. Applicants will be evaluated based on their energy-efficiency remodeling practices, including a whole-house approach to energy efficiency.

  • Rising Star (1) – This award will recognize a builder, trade partner, architect, rating organization, broker, or organization that has changed their business model over the last 2 years (2008 and 2009) to support ENERGY STAR.  

  • Trade Partner/Retailer/Manufacturer (1)This award will recognize a trade partner, retailer or manufacturer for outstanding support and contributions to the homebuilding and remodeling industry in support of ENERGY STAR.

  • Supporter (1) – This award will recognize a partner that provides support to the residential industry in the construction of ENERGY STAR Homes.  This includes organizations such as architects, HERS raters, brokers, realtors, and banks. If your organization supports another business and their ENERGY STAR efforts you will be considered for this award.

Eligibility

  • HomebuilderTo be eligible homebuilders must: (1) have a current ENERGY STAR Partner Agreement (2) certified 5 or more homes in 2009 and (3) built at least 90% of their homes to ENERGY STAR standards since joining the program.

  • Home Performance with ENERGY STAR ChampionTo be eligible applicant must: (1) Provide services under the Xcel Energy Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program (2) Use a nationally-recognized auditing procedure such as BPI or RESNET to test in and test out of homes, and (3) demonstrate the use of an approved audit reporting tool.

  • Rising StarTo be eligible Rising Star must: (1) have a current ENERGY STAR Partner Agreement, and (2) have converted business practices in the last 2 years (2008 and 2009) to support ENERGY STAR.

  • Trade Partner/Retailer/Manufacturer – To be eligible the trade partner, retailer or manufacturer must: (1) have a current ENERGY STAR Partner Agreement, (2) demonstrate the activities completed to fulfill that agreement, and (3) letter of support from client(s) using their services or products.

  • Home Energy Efficiency Contractor To be eligible the contractor must: (1) Provide contracting services outside of Xcel Energy service territory, and (2) Complete energy audits prior to installing energy-efficiency measures.

  • Supporter – To be eligible the associate needs to (1) have a current ENERGY STAR Partner Agreement, and (2) clearly detail the support provided to their client(s) to achieve ENERGY STAR goals. This includes support through design, ratings, flyers, training, outreach marketing, and sales.  

Judging Criteria

The Smart Energy Living Alliance will gather a judging committee from within Colorado based energy-efficiency experts and home building industry professionals to review and evaluate all applications. The committee will use the following criteria when evaluating applications.  

Homebuilder Judging Criteria

- Number of Certified ENERGY STAR Homes (10 Points)

- Marketing & Sales of ENERGY STAR Homes (25 Points)

- Training Programs for Trades and Staff (25 Points)

- Innovations in Building Practices (20 Points)

- Average HERS Score (10 Points)

- Quality Assurance Program (10 Points)

- ENERGY STAR Partner (Required)

 

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Champion

- Quantity of Energy-Efficiency Improvement Projects (15 points)

- Marketing and Sales of Energy-Efficiency Program (25 points)

- Audit Reporting Tool (20 Points)

- Training Programs for Trades and Staff (15 Points)

- Quality Assurance Program (15 Points)

- Auditor Certifications (10 Points)

- ENERGY STAR Partner (Required)

 

Home Energy Efficiency Contractor Champion

- Quantity of Energy-Efficiency Improvement Projects (15 points)

- Marketing and Sales of Energy-Efficiency Program (25 points)

- Audit Reporting Tool (20 Points)

- Training Programs for Trades and Staff (15 Points)

- Quality Assurance Program (15 Points)

Rising Star Judging Criteria

- Change in Business Practices to Support ENERGY STAR (50 Points)

- Commitment to ENERGY STAR (30 Points)

- Company Culture and ENERGY STAR (10 Points)

- ENERGY STAR Partner (Required)

 

Trade Partner/Retailer/Manufacturer Judging Criteria

- Detailed Information on Actions to Fulfill the ENERGY STAR Partner Agreement (40 Points)

- Letter of Support from Client(s) Using Services and/or Products (30)

- Company Commitment to Support ENERGY STAR (20 Points)

- Other (10 points)

- ENERGY STAR Partner (Required)

 

Supporter

- Support Provided to Client(s) to Achieve ENERGY STAR Goals (50 Points)

- Letter of Support from Client(s) Using Services and/or Products (30 Points)

- Company Culture and ENERGY STAR (10 Points)

- Use of ENERGY STAR Promotional Materials (10 points)

  • Answer each question relevant to your award category (5 pages maximum)

  • Provide examples of supporting materials
