David Mooney – Director of the Electricity,
Resources, and Building Systems Integration Center,
U.S. DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory
Dave is
currently working at the National Renewable Energy
Laboratory leading efforts to identify and address technical
issues associated with the large-scale deployment and
integration of renewable and efficiency technologies into
the existing energy infrastructure. In this capacity, he
leads 120 researchers conducting $50M in R&D annually. Dave
is a 20-year veteran of the renewable energy industry.
From 2007
to 2008 he was assigned by NREL to support the DOE’s office
of the Assistant Secretary for Efficiency and Renewables (EERE).
On the assignment he conducted analysis of EERE’s technology
portfolio to quantify energy, environmental, and economic
benefits and served as technical counsel to the Deputy
Assistant Secretaries and the Assistant Secretary.
Principal among his activities at DOE was the development of
a technology-based analysis for quantifying greenhouse gas
reduction potentials for the DOE technology portfolio, which
were used in international climate negotiations.
During his
tenure at NREL Dave has worked as a physicist researching
photovoltaic materials, as a project manager, and as
Assistant to the Director implementing laboratory strategy.
Dave has also worked as the director of business development
for a U.S. PV company where he was responsible for launching
manufacturing and systems businesses, business planning, and
raising investment capital.
Sam
Rashkin, National Director, U. S. EPA ENERGY STAR for Homes
Sam has
managed ENERGY STAR for Homes since its start in 1996.Under
his leadership, ENERGY STAR for Homes has grown
exponentially to more than 5,500 builder partners and over
850,000 labeled homes. He is also introducing a new EPA
Indoor Air Quality label for the housing industry linked to
ENERGY STAR Qualified Homes. Sam received his Bachelor of
Architecture degree from Syracuse University; completed
Masters of Urban Planning studies at New York University;
and is a registered architect in California and New York.
During his 20 plus years as a licensed architect, he
specialized in energy efficient design and completed over
100 residential projects. He has served on the national
Steering Committees for USGB's LEED for Homes, NAHB's Green
Builder Guidelines, and US EPA's Water Sense label. Sam has
prepared hundreds of articles, technical papers, reports,
and seminars; and contributed to numerous books covering a
wide variety of energy topics.
Jo Ann Apostol, Certified Residential Appraiser, Deer Creek
Appraisals
Jo Ann
has been an appraiser for over 8 years. She is a Certified
Residential Appraiser in the state of Colorado since 2002.
She has appraised properties for a variety of clients in
many locations around the Denver Metro area and the front
range. As a staff appraiser for a large appraisal firm for
seven years, her knowledge and experience base is vast. She
has appraised many unique properties including concrete
homes, self-sustaining homes and earthship homes around the
Denver metro and front range mountain areas. This knowledge
and experience has brought to Deer Creek Appraisals a solid
foundation in the residential appraisal industry.
Jo Ann is also an appraisal instructor for a well-known
Colorado real estate education provider. She has been
teaching appraisal courses for over 3 years. In 2008, Jo Ann
became a USPAP certified instructor through the Appraisal
Foundation. This part of her career is an extension from her
first career of being a secondary education teacher in the
public school system.

Steve Byers,
Principal, EnergyLogic Inc.
Steve Byers is one of the Principals of EnergyLogic Inc., a
Colorado based energy services organization primarily
serving the residential construction industry. Leaving the
Air Force after flying for five years, Steve got involved in
the building science industry working for Southface Energy
Institute in Atlanta. Relocating in 1997 to Colorado, Steve
began working in the HERS industry. It’s been a labor of
love and EnergyLogic has grown into the largest energy
rating company in Colorado, now working in existing homes,
commercial buildings and supporting a wide variety of
programs.
Steve is
a trainer and nationally recognized lecturer on the rating
industry, both for technical content and for business
development issues. He serves on the RESNET board and is
active in multiple industry related organizations.
Pat Coyle, Director,
Colorado Division of Housing
Pat Coyle
has over thirty years experience in business development and
affordable housing finance. He has worked at all three
levels of government and is currently the Director of the
Colorado Division of Housing. Prior to accepting his current
position in September, Pat directed the housing programs for
Denver’s Road Home, Denver’s Ten Year Plan to End
Homelessness. He is a founding and current board member of
Housing Colorado, Inc. the trade association for affordable
housing in Colorado and a board member of Rocky Mountain
Communities.
Dan dePontbriand,
President, Mountain Air Comfort Systems
Dan
founded Mountain Air in 1995, primarily performing work in
the new construction field. He began using the “house as a
system” approach in 2000 for add on retrofit work , after
joining the Comfort Institute. He was one of the
original HPwES contractors in the state, as a member of the
Colorado Springs Utilities program.
A member
of the EEBC, as well ACCA, Rheem Team, and many others,
under Dan's leadership Mountain Air has expanded their
services to include geothermal, solar, radiant, and
insulation. This expansion includes both the new
construction and retrofit markets.
Jamil
Dillon, Residential Program Associate, Governor's Energy
Office
Jamil
oversees the Residential Program at the Governor’s Energy
Office (GEO). The Residential Program provides a variety of
opportunities for energy conservation efforts in new and
existing homes. The GEO and its partners provide a number
of programs, grants, rebates and support services for
homeowners and the construction industry to assist with
making Colorado homes as energy efficient as possible.
Prior to
joining the GEO in 2008, Jamil had been working on energy
and water efficiency programs for existing residential homes
through Denver Water and the State of Colorado. Jamil
earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Management from
Wittenberg University in Ohio, and a Master’s of Science in
Real Estate and Construction Management from the Daniels
College of Business at the University of Denver. He has
over eight years of experience and education in the
residential construction industry and has focused on
conservation for past four years of his career.
Edward L.

Ed holds a Bachelor of
Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in
Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural
engineering. He is a Certified Level 2 Infrared
Thermographer, a Certified 3rd Party EIFS Inspector, a
Certified Forensic Claims Consultant (CFCC), and a Board
Certified Building Inspection Engineer (CBIE). Ed's
background includes geo-hydrology, hydrology, hydraulics,
civil engineering, structural engineering and extensive work

including asphalt work to the roof. Ed's work has included

Paul Kriescher, Principal and Founder, Lightly Treading,

Paul founded Lightly Treading, an energy home performance
and rating consulting firm started in 1997. They deliver
building science based testing, training and solutions for
new residential and small commercial buildings. Lightly
Treading is also the managing contractor for Xcel Energy’s
residential energy audit and Home Performance with
Energy-Star program. Mr. Kriescher holds a Masters Degree in
Energy Analysis and Policy from the University of Wisconsin.

Ted Leopkey, Program Analyst, U.S. Environmental Protection

Ted is a
program analyst with the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency in the Climate Protection Partnership Division. He
graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a BSME
and from The George Washington University with a Master of
Engineering with a concentration in Environmental and Energy
Management. Ted currently manages the Multifamily High-Rise
(MFHR) pilot program and the HVAC Quality Installation
program for the ENERGY STAR Residential Branch.
Bill
Lucas, Co-Founder, GB3 Energy Solutions
Bill is an experienced green builder and licensed general
contractor. He is a BPI certified building analyst, a
licensed RESNET Home Energy Rater, a LEED Accredited
Professional, a NAHB Green Building Program Verifier, and a
graduate of CSU’s first Green Building Certificate Course.
Originally lured into green building by straw bale homes in
the early 1990s, Bill has managed and/or built a number of
progressive homes, including two featured on the cover of
the Boulder Green Building Journal and one on the front page

He acts as

Rich
Moore, Invisible Energy
Rich has
worked in the field of residential energy conservation
performing energy audits, weatherization services, training,
and consultation for homeowners and builders since 1984. He
has been a regular presenter at numerous regional and
national conferences, including several at the Affordable
Comfort Conferences (since 1994), the National EEBA
Conference in Denver, and at DoE Weatherization Conferences
in Atlanta, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix. In Colorado, he
served as a trainer and Training Center Coordinator for the
Governor’s Office of Energy Management and Conservation
weatherization program. He has also worked with the Proctor
Engineering Group in San Rafael, CA, training Southern
California heating contractors on Combustion Safety and Duct
Leakage through utility funded programs, for NYSERDA (New
York State Energy and Research Development Authority) for
home performance contractors, and for Portland Energy
Conservation Inc., training HVAC contractors on duct testing
and air flow.
In 2003 he
founded Invisible Energy, offering a full line
of residential energy conservation consultation and training
services for builders, energy professionals, and home

Joe
Nagan, Owner,

Since 1985 Joe
has also been involved in residential building science
research in both the USand Canada and has been very active
in State wide conservation efforts in Wisconsin. Working
with the Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation of
Madison, Joe helped coauthor the nationally recognized
Wisconsin ENERGY STAR® Homes program where he currently
serves as Technical Director and is also a member of the
program team.
Joe is widely
respected and sought after for his vast overall knowledge of
building science and provides training and technical support
for the Wisconsin Building America initiative and is also
part of the RESNET approved training series for new

Alyssa
Quarforth, Program Manager, Commercial Property Markets
ENERGY STAR
Alyssa
is a Program Manager for the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency’s ENERGY STAR program. She leads the federal
government’s outreach and coordination with leading industry
associations and working groups in the commercial real
estate and financial services market which include office,
multi-family housing, data centers, warehouses, banks, and
insurance companies. She works with property owners and
operators, and other financial stakeholders to identify the
financial and environmental value of whole building energy
efficiency and climate stewardship. She has also been an
integral part of the development of Portfolio Manager (EPA’s
energy management tool)
and
EPA’s national energy performance ratings. Alyssa holds a
Master of Environmental Management degree from Duke
University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University

Susan Reilly, President, Enermodal
Engineering
Susan is
president of Enermodal Engineering, Inc. located in Denver,
Colorado. Susan has worked with design teams throughout the
U.S. to incorporate greater energy efficiency and
sustainable design practices into their projects over the
past 15 years. Susan is well-known for her energy modeling
expertise and received the 2006 Practitioner of the Year
Award from the U.S. chapter of the International Building
Performance Simulation Association. She has worked as
reviewer for LEED Energy and Atmosphere Credits and as
technical support for the development of the Energy and
Atmosphere sections of the reference guides for the USGBC
LEED-NC, CI, and EB.
Homer Robinson, Senior Project Manager,
Romero Rose LLC
In addition to directing
Romero Rose’s policy and community outreach efforts, Homer
Robinson is a senior project manager for Romero Rose’s
Alvarado Transportation Center Development, a transit
oriented development in New Mexico that includes low and
moderate income LIHTC financed apartment units. Mr.
Robinson’s work is currently focused on Silver Gardens, a
multi-phased mixed-income multi-unit tax credit rental
residential project.
A key ingredient of the master
plan for the redevelopment of two and one-half vacant city
blocks across from the Alvarado Transportation Center, the
first phase of Silver Gardens is slated for completion in
2010. Homer is managing the LEED Mid-rise Pilot and
Enterprise Green Communities certification processes for the
first phase of the green development which consists of 66
residential units, a 15,000 sf courtyard, and a range of
common areas that will also serve the second and final phase
of the development.
Mr. Robinson is also
responsible for developing and managing Jonathan Rose
Companies’ carbon neutrality efforts, having designed the
protocols and calculators currently in use for tracking
carbon emissions across all offices. Additionally, he
drafted Jonathan Rose Companies’ Green Office Guide, which
is aimed at reducing operational carbon emissions.
Mr. Robinson is a LEED®
Accredited Professional, a licensed New Mexico real estate
broker, and a graduate of Amherst College and Yale Law
School.
Jammie Sabin, President, Aspen Homes of
Colorado, Inc.
Jammie Sabin is a leader in
building energy efficiency housing. Aspen Homes of
Colorado is a production builder based on the principle that
new construction must be energy efficient. Each Aspen home
is 100% ENERGY STAR certified. Aspen Homes’ energy
efficiency practices have received state and national
recognition, including being named the 2008 Energy Value
Housing Award Builder of the Year, a national honor bestowed
by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National

Mark Samuelson, Founder, Samuelson &
Associates
Mark founded Samuelson &
Associates in 1982, just as the typewriter was giving way to
the PC. By that year, he had already spent a dozen years in
advertising, public relations and marketing, including in
the Information Systems Division at SERI, now the National
Renewable Energy Lab, in Golden. His work there on behalf of
passive solar homebuilders took his new company in the
direction of residential building and real estate; however,
he continued to work on renewable energy and conservation
projects over the years, including marketing for prototype
Energy Star ratings programs in Austin, Fort Collins,
British Columbia and other markets. He has been involved in
marketing for many of Colorado’s most prominent real estate

Robby Schwarz, Principal, EnergyLogic Inc.
Robby has
an extensive background in residential construction having
started his career working with one of Colorado’s most
progressive homebuilders. Robby is one of the nation’s most
experienced energy raters and is sought after as a speaker
at industry events. He is a very experienced Rater Trainer
and Quality Assurance Designee and serves on RESNET’s
Quality Assurance Committee. As Chief of Operations, he is
directly responsible for managing EnergyLogic’s three
Colorado field offices and staff of fifteen raters. Robby
has performed ratings and energy audits on thousands of
homes and brings an systematic approach to all of his work
that is reflected throughout EnergyLogic’s operations.
Zak
Shadid, Operations Coordinator, ENERGY STAR for Homes
Zak Shadid
is the Operations Coordinator for the ENERGY STAR for Homes
program. He holds a degree in Government Policy and
Environmental Science from The University of Maryland,
College Park. For the past four years, Zak has worked with
the ENERGY STAR for Homes program in both the private and
federal sectors promoting energy efficient construction.
Sean Smith, Sean Smith
& Company, LLC
Seam
started doing additions and renovations, but quickly grew
into in-fill projects and custom construction in the Denver
region. He quickly saw the need for a greater emphasis on
energy efficiency and sustainable construction, and has
committed to building 100% of his new construction projects
to the ENERGY STAR guidelines. His last project received
certification through ENERGY STAR, the Builders Challenge,
and a LEED Gold designation as well.
Chandler von Schrader, Operations Manager,
Home
Performance with Energy Star
Chandler von Schrader
is a program analyst and the
Home Performance with Energy Star operations manager at the
EPA. He has been in the energy
efficiency industry since 1981 working for utilities, a
weatherization fund, and an HVAC company as well as being
part owner of a remodeling company and an energy service
company. For the past seven years, Chandler has worked for
the EPA promoting energy efficiency best practices in the
HVAC, home performance, and remodeling industries.
Chris Voth, Comedian
Chris
Voth appeared in three seasons of "Last Comic Standing" on
NBC and Comedy Central and appeared prominently in the
commercials for both. Nearly a 10-year comedy veteran, Voth
is a past winner of the Miller Lite Comedy Competition of
Denver and has worked with everyone from Dave Chappelle to
Linda Ronstadt.
Called "a
name to watch" and "a very funny guy" by the Rocky Mountain
News, Voth began his stand-up "career" in the Los Angeles
area in the late-1990s. He moved to Colorado in 1998 to hone
his craft in a less-saturated and higher-elevated market. In
2002, he moved to San Francisco, becoming a regular at the
comedy clubs in the Bay Area, and in 2006 returned to
Denver.
Voth has
worked with some of the biggest names in comedy, including
Dave Attell, Jim Gaffigan, Dana Carvey, Wayne Brady, Larry
the Cable Guy, Brett Butler, Caroline Rhea, Tommy Davidson,
Kevin Nealon, Tommy Chong, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kevin Pollack,
David Brenner, Jake Johannsen, Louie Anderson, Mitch Hedberg,
Brian Regan and Kathleen Madigan.
In
addition, Voth performed for two years in a clean comedy
improv troupe, doing nearly 200 shows at colleges,
conferences, and camps all over North America.
Albert
Wallace, President, Energy Environmental Corporation
Albert is
licensed by the State of Colorado and is a certified expert
in alternative HVAC and energy systems design and
installation. After serving as an Air Force F-15 and F-5
instructor pilot, Al spent two decades in technical
consulting and sales management in the high tech industry
sectors (Oracle, Sybase, and Cisco Systems). Preceding the
recent boom in renewable energy, he founded Energy
Environmental Corporation after managing Eagle Ridge
Engineering Corporation for 8 years. Al holds certification
from the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association
and American Energy Engineers. He served on the Board of
Directors of E-Star Colorado, was RESNET and USGBC LEED for
Homes certified. Mr. Wallace holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the USAF Academy,
Colorado, an MBA from Golden Gate University, California,
and dual Masters Degrees in Architecture and Landscape
Architecture from the University of Colorado, Denver,
Colorado.
Kristen White, Director of Sales, Oakwood Homes LLC
Kristen was
born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Started in Real Estate
in 1995 with Keller Williams Realty and joined Oakwood Homes
in 1997 as a Sales Counselor. She worked on site for three
years and was recognized with several sales awards
including, Rookie of the year, and Million Dollar Circle
Award thru Home Builders Association. Kristen was then
promoted to a Sales manager and a year later to Director of
Sales and Marketing and Executive Team for Oakwood.
Jack Zelkin, Colorado Association of Realtors
Ambassador
Jack
Zelkin has 25 years of experience in relationship-building
and consultative sales in the homebuilder, REALTOR®, and
supplier marketplace. He works with the Colorado Association
of Realtors as an Outreach Public Relations Consultant. Jack
has worked with the EPA, NAHB, Xcel Energy, and several
homebuilders and Realtor offices on energy efficiency
programs. Jack is the first non-Realtor in Colorado’s
history to receive CAR's Presidential Distinguished Service
Award.
